Ghost Stories, Anyone? Vol. 2

Okay, ladies and gents! The time has come for another installation of my ghostly experiences. Let’s seeeee……I guess I can start with my most recent ghostly experience.

Earlier this year, I had to go through the most awful experience of losing my cat (also the family cat), Duce. He was 14 years old.

To anyone who has lost a pet, I completely feel your pain and I’m so sorry for your loss. This was my first time experiencing such pain in my 33 years of life. In my situation there’s some guilt added onto it because my money wasn’t right at the time because of a job I lost (the place I was working at closed down out of no where) and had I had enough cash on me, he would be still be alive. Because I failed to learn the importance of actually putting money aside sometimes, he is now gone forever. I’ve told him I’m so sorry a million times by now and cried so many tears but at least I know one thing for sure: he knew how much I loved him.

He may have even paid me a visit at least twice since he passed. One night, I had fallen asleep on the couch and suddenly something bumped my arm to the point where I had to wake up and raise my head to look. I didn’t see him with my eyes but I definitely got a flash vision of him in my mind and I knew instantly the Duce was just saying, “hello.”

The second time he visited me, I was in at the kitchen table doing crafts. I got up from the table and moved towards the living room when I see from the side of my eye, what looked like a black cat walking away from just where I was sitting in the kitchen…as if Duce had been sitting by my side as I was in the chair.

As guilty as I felt for him being gone, those two moments will stick with me forever because I know that he still loves me like I do him. I’ve heard stories that when we, ourselves die and cross over, we will be reunited with out pets as well as other loved ones. I can’t wait to see him again. Love you, Duce!

Okay, now that I’ve shed enough tears while writing, let’s move on to the next one…

I mentioned the ghostly experiences at the casino in Vol. 1. Well, my house was about 4 minutes away and quite frankly, I think the whole area experienced spirit activity thanks to everything being built on the grounds where the Luiseño Native Americans once lived.

I’ve experienced the power being shut off at my friends house across the street from where I lived more than once. We’d be watching a movie and suddenly everything goes shuts off, we go outside to find the power box open and no one around. One night, we were outside and I saw a dark shadow near that box and I thought to myself,  “A-ha! I knew it was a ghost.” I said out loud to my friend, “who is over there?” My friend replied, “Monique, there’s no one there.”

Her little brother once told us that one night, while she was spending the night at my house, he definitely saw “her” in her room or something at one point and was creeped out after he called out to her and she was trance like and didn’t respond. Was there a ghost pretending to be her??

A few houses down the way, my friend was babysitting one day. At one point she looked to the top of the stairs to see a child standing there who definitely wasn’t one of the kids she was babysitting.

In my house, the thing that sticks out the most would be the random knocking on walls that my two little sisters and I would hear every once in a while. One day I mentioned it to my mom and she said, “Monique, stop! You’re gonna scare your sisters (my sisters weren’t scared of knocks, for the record).” Funny thing is, another day, I was in the living room with her and there was a *knock! knock! knock!* right on the wall behind her. I pretended I didn’t hear it so that I could watch her turn around and look to see where it was coming from and then laugh inside like, “Ha! you heard it too!”

My youngest little sister experienced things here and there…one time when she was about 13, I saw her crying and go running to my mom’s room and ask if she could sleep with her in her bed. I never asked her what she experienced because she was always the kind of person who would keep those things to herself. I was once told by a psychic that, I, “see spirits” and I think my sister is also sensitive in that way. Those who are more open in that way will experience more than others.

I’ve experienced hearing a glass jar lid lifting and slamming back down to the point where my mom woke up and asked me what the heck I was doing. I think the ghost was telling on me because I was on the computer that I was restricted from at the time. What a jerk. 😉 LOL.

So, this concludes, Ghost Stories, Anyone? Vol. 2. I really enjoy writing out my experiences for you guys! Once Vol. 3 is done, that will be the end of my own experiences for right now but perhaps I can do research on other well known or not so well known paranormal events all over the world and write about those. We’ll see how it goes :-).

Tell me your ghost stories in the comments or e-mail them to me anytime!

Until next time, folks …

Ghost Stories, Anyone?

Halloween will be here before we know it (such a lovely time of year). That means there’s no better time than the present to tell you all of my ghostly experiences since childhood. So, light some candles, turn off the lights, grab about a half dozen cupcakes for yourself, sit back…relax and let the ghost story party begin…

The first experience that I can remember was at my grandmothers house as a child. My two cousins and I were taking a nap, me in my grandmothers sewing room and my two cousins in my grandmothers bedroom across the hall. Our doors are cracked open.

I remember waking up suddenly during my nap feeling that I definitely wasn’t alone in the room. I was on my side and from the side of my eye I can see darkness behind me. This person was squatting down behind me attempting to watch my as I slept. They were not threatening at all but because even at that young age, I was aware they they definitely weren’t alive, I was too scared to turn my head and get a good look. Instead, I closed by eyes, hoping that they would go away.

When my cousins and I woke up from our naps, we all go rushing to our grandmother in the kitchen to tell her what we witnessed. Yes, that’s right the squatting, not alive visitor paid my cousins a visit as well. There description of it, a dark shadow with glowing green eyes. I’m just gonna go ahead a quote their older sister when we re-told this story many years later as adults: “that don’t sound like no ghost, that sound like a monster.” My thoughts exactly, cousin. My thoughts exactly. I’m definitely glad I chose to close my eyes and not look. I would have lost my shit! It was right next to me!

The paranormal nerd in me has to add that spirits can take on any form and make themselves look any way they want us to see them as. For whatever reason, this dude wanted to be a shadow person with glowing green eyes…even though he was seemingly a nice, maybe a little creepy, person who was just curious about us as we tried to nap. My mom thinks it could have even been a friend of hers who was shot and killed during her childhood….but considering my grandmother lives about 400 feet away from a cemetery, it could have been anyone.

Okay, onto the next story…

This next experience took place at my place of work at the time. I worked at a casino for nearly 12 years. It was about my 3rd year in when I was “movin’ on up” from being a dishwasher to being a line cook. The area of the casino I worked at was brand new.  I worked in the food court.

To be honest, it was when I was still a dishwasher at the food court where my first strange experiences happened. I would get random scratches on my arms every once in a while that I knew I didn’t remember accidentally doing to myself. The most impressive scratch was one I got on my leg one day. I was washing dishes when I felt this stinging on my right leg. I lift up my pant leg to take a look and there’s a long red welt about 6 inches long going down my shin. It didn’t register in my mind until much later that it was probably a ghost that was leaving scratches on me.

The whole area I grew up in is where Native Americans lived before us so naturally, you probably have burial grounds near by as well.

After becoming a line cook, my co-workers and I would all experience things while doing our prep work in the kitchen quite often. Our radio would shut off, my ipod would be completely drained as it’s charging and my music would shut off, people would hear their names being called or feel like they are being watched through the window of the walk in refrigerator while they’re inside, people would feel like someone is with them in the kitchen if they’re alone, the list goes on.

One of the most impressive things I ever witnessed was a long streak of white light floating passed me in the kitchen one day when I was in there alone. Another impressive experience is something I experiences with a few co-workers when we saw the date sticker labels that were hanging on the wall rolling down to the floor by themselves! My co-worker said, “Monique, look!” I turn around and there they were, already rolled to the floor and they kept going even when my co-worker went to stand directly in front of them. Crazy, fascinating stuff, I tell ya!

Based on what I’ve learned in paranormal land, sometimes if any type of construction is going on at a home or a business, any spirits that are around are basically stirred up and they will definitely let you know that they’re there. By the time I left the casino almost a decade later, stuff had calmed down. Every once in a while, I’d hear of things happening but it definitely wasn’t a constant thing like when the food court was brand new.

Okay, folks, I could continue the story telling but perhaps I should save the rest for Halloween and if that also looks like it’s going to be long, I’ll break that one up as well. LOL.

If any of you would like to share your ghost stories, please do! In the comments section or by email at and I can post them here for you if you want and we can make this a thing! I love ghost stories!

Thanks for reading. Until next time….
