Go See #BlackPanther Now!

Black_Panther_1024x1024.jpg

Hey, beautiful people! I just wanted to give my thoughts on the movie and I promise I won’t give away too many details because you must go see it for yourself!

I wasn’t expecting Black Panther to give me feelings that were any different from any of the Avengers movies, Iron Man movies, Captain America movies etc., etc. but in fact, it did.

As a black woman, I never had plans of going to see this movie because it’s the first black super hero Marvel has given us (as awesome as that is!). I just wanted to go and enjoy another bad ass Marvel super hero movie. As it turned out, as I sat there in the theater and watched the movie, my inner being felt so much love from seeing a MARVEL movie featuring a BLACK super hero, with nearly a full BLACK cast of people playing these amazing characters!…and to sit there and enjoy this movie with a bunch of strangers of all races and nationalities…such a beautiful feeling!

I highly recommend this movie to anyone reading this right now. You have a black king and super hero, you have strong women warriors who are total bad asses right along side him, you have villains who make you laugh (one especially!) and most importantly, make sure you stay a little after the credits start rolling because the Black Panther gives an important, loving message to the human race <3.

Go and see it and come tell me what you think! Thanks for reading!…

You Can Be Your Own Photographer

giphy.gif

So you need to get some pictures done but you don’t have enough cash to pay a photographer at the moment? It’s okay! I’m here to give you a little inspiration to get the job done on your own. All you need is a digital camera, a wonderful location and some imagination.

It was about 4 years back and my little sister, Anna, was a senior in high school. The time came for her to get her senior pictures done. It’s understandable that these days, the kids want their pictures to be professional. They want to feel good while getting their photos taken and they want to NOT feel as though their pictures will end up looking like this…

Beautiful_Mind

To be fair, I’ll post one of me as well. Here’s me with my other sister, Jennifer, in the 90s….

12189773_1181685025181208_8783332280563646701_n

I brushed my eyebrows like that because I thought it looked, “cool”. Oh boy…

Anyway, when the time came for my sister Anna to get her pictures done, she wasn’t really feeling the place her dad took her to so, big sis to the rescue! I grabbed my digital camera and we got to work!

Before I give you some tips, I’ll show you the final product…

Anna

I think the picture turned out lovely and Anna looks lovely too. Not bad for my first time being a wanna be photographer and photoshoot hair stylist ;-).

Find a beautiful location that inspires you. Get creative with the clothing, accessories and props. My sister chose a simple black dress to wear but you could easily take it up a notch and hit up some local thrift shops and come up with an amazing look that makes you look like a fashion model. Think outside of the box and maybe grab some things that you wouldn’t usually wear. Add something ugly to the look even (think runway models and the strange outfits we see them in). I flipped a bit of her hair to the side, picked some flowers and berries I found in nature, tied them together and secured them onto her hair with the help of bobby pins.

For fun, today, I picked out some fun flowers and leaves to give you even more inspiration of the beauty you can add to hair, a hat or simply a prop for the hands.

IMG_20180208_152015.jpg

What if you did a hairstyle like this?….

hair

Or bold make up like this?…

Or an outfit like this?…

_Leonid Gurevich_Raen Badua__Heart of Gold__Menswear_long hair_DEGEN_fur)adrienne landau_fashion_hippie_bohemian_brands_music_guys_Eric Vosburg_winter_summer_spring_styling_editorial_mal

Imagine this guy wearing a nice suit instead, standing there looking like James Bond or something. That would be awesome!

Experiment with different looks, locations and poses and take lots and lots of photos so that you have choices! I took another picture of Anna with her hair pulled back and she’s holding the flowers in one hand instead. We had no choice but to go with this one, with the flowers in the hair, the messy hair flip and unique placement of the hands.

Last but not least, when you’ve selected the winning photo/s, get them printed some place like Wal Mart or even do it yourself at home if you know how.

source.gif

No matter what the occasion is that you need professional photos done for, just know that thinking outside of the box when you’re low on cash will help get you some amazing results that you’ll be happy with, proud of and that others will envy you for ;-). I wish I had thought of this for myself for my senior picture! I’m sitting here staring at my boring senior photo that took place inside a studio with a boring blue, grey marbled looking background. Haha. Oh well, there are many more pictures I can take in the future if I want to.

That’s all I needed to say today. I hope I inspired someone! Until next time…

Unicorn Hair Bow Holder Tutorial

Unicorn_Emoji_grande

Hey, beautiful people! The above image was my inspiration for today’s project. We are making a cute little unicorn head, mane and all, for you to clip your cute little hair bows and clips on! Here’s what you’ll need:

*Two pieces of felt in the color of your choice. I want my unicorn to be white.

*Marker for drawing.

*Cotton stuffing.

*Scissors.

*Hot glue gun (with glue…duhhh).

*Paint to paint the eyes, nose and mouth if you wish.

*Tulle and ribbon of whatever colors you want for the mane.

*Anything else you can think of to decorate your unicorn with.

Okay, let’s get started…

giphy.gif

Step One: Using any unicorn inspiration you find online (I’ll be using the first unicorn up top),  draw the outline of your unicorn. Here’s the best I was able to do….

IMG_20180207_142424.jpg

Step Two: Take your other piece of felt and place it behind the first one and cut out your unicorn head and then you’ll have two (one of mine isn’t white but it doesn’t matter, it’ll be the back). Flip over your top piece to hide those marker lines on the edges…

IMG_20180207_142955.jpg

Step Three: Now it’s time to glue these two pieces together so that we can stuff the unicorn with cotton stuffing. Plug in your hot glue gun. Glue a little by little (be careful not to burn yourself), making sure both pieces are lined up nicely and most importantly, leave a section un-glued so that you can put the stuffing inside. Like so…

IMG_20180207_144528.jpg

Step Four: Stuff your unicorn as much or as little as you want before gluing it shut completely and you will have this…

IMG_20180207_160039.jpg

Step Five: Now it’s time to bring this unicorn to life! You can paint on it’s features or get creative and do it another way. For example, I used a dark brown button and a little flat back pearl for the eye. Next, I took my paint and added my finishing touches and ended up with this…

IMG_20180207_150752.jpg

Step Six: Time for the fun part. Let’s give this baby some hair. I used hot glue for this part again but this is where it can get dangerous. Use a a plastic lid or anything you can think of to help you press the tulle down into the hot glue safely. Or just curse your way through it like I do. LOL.

Start up near the top near his ears. Give him some bangs and then work your way down. Place a dabs of glue, not on the front, but on the back side of the unicorn. That way the hair waterfalls up and over to the front side that we see head on.

Do this for as many times as you want, top to bottom until he has enough tulle hair. For fun, I added some ribbon as well.  Here is the finished product…

IMG_20180207_155540

IMG_20180207_155548 (1)

Step Seven: I topped my unicorn off with a black and white polka dot bow and for the horn, I had this stiff glitter material that I got on a roll at Hobby Lobby. I don’t know the proper name of it, sorry. You could use a glitter foam sheet as well (I usually see them near the felt in craft stores) or you could also upcycle a piece of cardboard and cut it into a shape of a unicorn horn and paint it in multiple colors and sprinkle some glitter over it and let it dry. Anything you can think of will work great for the horn. Glue your unicorn horn on where ever you think looks best.

Step Eight: Glue on ribbon or yarn on the back so that you can hang up your creation. Take advantage of that beautiful unicorn’s mane and clip on hair clips, hair bows and even stick earrings through the tulle….and enjoy!

giphy.gif

I hope you all enjoyed this tutorial! Use your imagination and think of other cool things you can make using the same techniques you’ve learned here! Okay, byyyeeee…

Flower Headband Tutorial

giphy

I’m going to have you looking like this girl from The Simpsons in no time, don’t you worry.

I’ve been thinking about making a flower headband for a few days now while staring at the fake flowers I bought from the Dollar Tree recently and I thought, “why not show the beautiful people of the world how to make one?” So let’s get started!

Here’s what you’ll need:

*A headband of your choice. I like using metal headbands just because they are sturdy, yet bendy if you need to adjust them. I get mine from Amazon.

*Tulle, ribbon, and of course a flower to glue onto your headband….and anything else you think you may want to add.

*Scissors

*Your strongest glue. I’ll be using a hot glue gun for this.

Let’s get started!

shia.gif

Step One: Let’s begin by wrapping the headband in tulle. You don’t have to of course. Wrapping your headband in ribbon or anything else you think would be cute. Today, I’m doing tulle followed by ribbon and you may want to copy me after you see (or not). Put a dab of glue at the bottom of your headband and begin. Placing dabs of glue every few inches along the way…

IMG_20180205_195752 (1)

IMG_20180205_195722

Step Two: Take a piece of ribbon and we’ll be giving the headband a “candy cane” look by wrapping the ribbon around the headband just like we did the tulle…only spaced out like so…

IMG_20180205_195555.jpg

And we’re done with the first part…

Step Three: This is an option step but it looks super cute if you take some ribbon and make a bow that will go underneath the flower on the headband. Simply tie a bow like you would your shoe laces, make sure it’s nice and neat after it’s tied and fray proof the edges of the ribbon with a lighter.

Step Four: Now it’s time to build onto the headband you wrapped. Pick a spot that you think looks cute and let’s start. Glue down your cute bow first. Grab your flower next and glue it on top of the bow.

Step Five: From here you can decide what else you may want to add to it. I decided to add some cute, tiny flowers that sprout from the middle of my larger flower. I topped those off with another white lace ribbon bow and topped that off with a tiny black bow with a pearl in the middle. There is no wrong way to do this. Here is my final product…

Yaaassss, honey! Isn’t it cute? I can’t wait to make some more! My final and optional step would be to clue a fake leaf on the bottom like this to make sure your flower isn’t going any where….

Thank you all for stopping by! Until next time…byeee…

Let’s Turn Dessert Toppings Into Art!

I’m sure we’ve all seen those cute, decorative glass jars and bottles that can be found in kitchens and restaurants that look like this….

Make-Decorative-Bottles-for-the-Kitchen-Step-7.jpg

Well, it’s time to switch things up!!!

giphy

Here’s what you’ll need:

*Glass jar or bottle of any size.

*Enough sweet goodness to fill it up with like sprinkles, brown sugar, chocolate chips, crushed oreos, candy, etc., etc., etc.

*Optional-get some puffy paint and fake sprinkles to decorate your jar or bottle after it’s been glued shut. Otherwise, grab whatever you want to decorate the lid with and make it less boring.

*Oh, yeah and glue 😉

Let’s get started!

giphy.gif

By the way, this step by step process will not contain pictures for every step because it’ll just be me typing, “Step 1, pour in your first topping….Step 2, pour in your second topping.” LOL. I won’t do that to you today so let’s just see the finished product and I’ll give you some tips…

IMG_20180201_163835.jpg

I have a few of these three ounce jars in my craft stash that I want to put to good use and this is what I plan to do with every one. Sprinkles and brown sugar are all I have around at the moment but just imagine what you can do with the toppings and candy you choose in the jar or bottle you choose!

You can even gift one to a friend or family member that’s not glued shut and filled with their favorite candy all stacked in a decorative way just before they eat it all ;-).

The biggest tip I have is just make sure each layer is exactly how you want it before moving onto the next. That way you don’t have to worry about pouring that shit out and starting over again. Haha.

Decorate the lid how ever you want but I love the frosting and sprinkles look so that’s where the puffy paints come into play. Make it look like frosting dripping down over the lid. Get your FAKE sprinkles from Amazon or Ebay or Etsy and sprinkle them on top and let it dry.

You can obviously use the fake sprinkles inside the jar as well but that’s no fun, is it? go for the real deal. Real ones will bleed onto the paint, by the way…trust me, I’ve tried it. So fake sprinkles outside and real sprinkles inside, por favor ;-).

giphy.gif

So that concludes this quick tutorial of something super fun you can do with your friends and family. Or just do it alone so that everyone around you thinks you’re a badass who is amazingly talented ;-).

You know, maybe I’ll make a bunch to sell and market them as a weight loss tool with the following instructions: “When you’re feeling like you want to reach for that extra cookie or cupcake you don’t need, just stare hard at this jar of sweets while drinking a glass of water. You’re welcome.” Hahaha.

My goofy-ness aside, thank you all for stopping by and I hope you enjoyed this one. I know I can’t wait to make more! Bye!….

A.S.M.R.-Don’t Knock It Til You Try It, Honey!

giphy

Here’s what our good friend, Wikipedia, says about A.S.M.R….

“Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) is a term used for an experience characterised by a static-like or tingling sensation on the skin that typically begins on the scalp and moves down the back of the neck and upper spine. ASMR signifies the subjective experience of “low-grade euphoria” characterised by “a combination of positive feelings and a distinct static-like tingling sensation on the skin”. It is most commonly triggered by specific acoustic or visual stimuli, and less commonly by intentional attention control.”

In a nutshell, ASMR makes you feel like you’re this guy…

giphy1.gif

It’s been about a year since I first came across ASMR on YouTube accidentally. Honestly, I wonder just how far deep in the YouTube universe I traveled in order to accidentally come upon it.  You know how it goes: one minute you’re looking at cat videos and then an hour goes by and you’ve come to a video titled, “Flying Whales: Do They Really Exist?” LOL.

giphy.gif

The first ASMRtist I came across (if I’m remembering correctly) was ASMR Darling. Check out her YouTube Channel here: Click Here For ASMR Darling.

After watching a few of her videos and learning a little more about how ASMR works, I was reminded of the very first time I experienced ASMR in my life that I could remember. It was a few years back in Los Angeles. I was in a Japanese nail art salon getting my nails done. The salon was silent. I was relaxed with two woman working on my nails at once. As they worked on me, they were whispering to each other in Japanese about what I can assume was life, work and maybe even me (no, they were really kind I would hope not). Haha. The sound of their whispers was so relaxing to my ears! I felt like I was being hypnotized to sleep just from the sounds of their whispers. Very strange but every cool!

giphy

There are people who are immediately turned off by ASMR without even properly educating themselves on the subject, “Ewww, it’s too fetish-like for me…” What?? No, it’s actually you making it fetish-like. They’re not pulling out whips and tying viewers to imaginary bed posts before spanking them for crying out loud. LOL (although if you travel deep enough into YouTube, who knows…). I personally, like to darken my laptop screen before bed, pop in those ear phones and just listen. It’s all about the sounds for me.  Although watching an ASMRtist brush their hands softly in front of the camera in an up and down motion can definitely help lull me to sleep as well.

Definitely give this a good go and explore different ASMR videos and discover what your triggers are. Do you like the sound of whispering like I do? Did you feel like falling asleep in a silent high school class room back in the day when there was nothing but the sounds of pencils on paper and the turning of pages? Do certain visuals help relax you? These are examples of triggers. Type them into the YouTube search and go from there. You may just find yourself addicted some day and you won’t be able to get enough of your ASMR videos before bed (or whenever) or you may decide it’s not for you at all. Promise me you’ll at least try it out ;-).

giphy.gif

There are great benefits to ASMR too.  It can help with insomnia, lower stress levels, help people with anxiety and I even read something about the digestive system and weight loss (the last one doesn’t work for me *ahem*)! These are only a few examples of what ASMR can do for you but most importantly, it makes you feel good and when you feel good you’ll start to do other things to take better care of yourself.

Okay, now it’s time to list my top five favorite ASMRtists:

Maria (Gentle Whispering)

Emma (WhispersRed)

Gibi (Gibi ASMR)

Dmitri (Massage ASMR)

Fred (FredsVoice ASMR)

There are many, many, many more great ASMRtists out there but these are the four that I personally check in on the most to see their latest videos <3.

I’ve come to appreciate ASMR so much that I was inspired to start my own embarrassing YouTube channel called, “Just ASMR Audio” a while ago. I wanted it to be just focused on just the sounds because that’s what I like and let’s be real, I don’t want to be on camera. LOL.  I don’t know if I’ll create more videos in the future but feel free to check out the first four videos I put on my channel here if you’d like: Just ASMR Audio  Maybe they’ll be of use to you or maybe you just want to have a laugh at an ASMR newbie (please let it be the second reason. :-P).

That is all for today, folks! I just wanted to give ASMR a shout out today and I hope you enjoyed it. Until next time…

Let’s Make Some Deer Antlers/Ears!

109d7f0332b4bc5093e82b038af8d72c

Hey, beautiful people! The above picture is is an example of what we’re making today! Yay!!!!  The end result will be a different pair of antlers/ears because the ones above were sold years back (just so you know).

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • headband of your choice.
  • scissors
  • felt or anything you have to make ears out of. Optional if you only want antlers.
  • plenty of hot glue sticks and of course the hot glue gun.
  •  ribbon, tulle or even strips of frayed, pretty fabric to wrap around your headband to make it look less boring.
  • anything you’d like to decorate with, flowers, gems, buttons, whatevs.
  • pipe cleaner for the base of our antlers.
  • acrylic paint, water cup, paper towels, paint brushes.

Let’s do this!

giphy

Step One: Google, “Deer Antlers” to that you have a good example of how to shape yours out of the pipe cleaner. Found one!….

466280485_XS

Step Two: Grab three or four pipe cleaner and roll them all together into one. Do this twice, like so….

IMG_20180120_123006

Step Three: Twist them as tightly as you can to the headband and you will end up with this (it’s okay if they slide around after they’re on the headband, glue will come later)…

IMG_20180120_123530

Step Four: Perfect! Now use the picture you found on Google as your inspiration, grab some more pipe cleaner and it’s time to start adding onto your antlers. You add on by using technique we used previously. Twist a few pipe cleaners together first and then twist them onto the ones you’ve already attached to the headband. How ever you do it, it doesn’t matter, as long as they end up attached and shaped how you like. Use your scissors to cut certain bits off if needed. I’ll do mine and show you…

IMG_20180120_130854.jpg

I’m happy with the shape of mine. If you are working with a metal headband or probably any headband, you’ll notice those antlers easily slide from left to right. Instead of using glue, I decided  to cut strips of tulle (use whatever you have) to secure them more tightly in place. You’ll still be able to slide them but at least they won’t move too much for the next step…IMG_20180120_130859

Step Five: Plug in that hot glue gun. I can sense  that you’re doubting me right about now but just you wait. This is about to be an upgrade from the antlers in the first picture ;-). Make sure your antlers are exactly how you want them as far as shape and placement on the headband. Check and Check? Okay, let’s go…

Step Six: We are covering that not so cute pipe cleaner with layers of hot glue! Please be careful! Be mindful of where your fingers are because that stuff drips! It’ll sneak up on you. If you happen to have a low temp hot glue gun or a hot glue gun with a low temp setting, that actually works better for this part because the glue won’t come out like lava and will stick to the pipe cleaner easier since it’s cooler. If you don’t have a low temp hot glue gun, that’s fine too.

Put on some music or a movie. This process is a bit tedious. Just when you think you’ve covered all the pipe cleaner with hot glue? You haven’t. LOL.

Do one layer of hot glue over the pipe cleaner, let it cool, do another, let it cool and so on and so forth until you are satisfied with how they look. If there is a place you put the hot glue that didn’t turn out so great, just melt it with the tip of your hot glue gun and start over…or cut it off and start over. Here’s how mine turned out…

Step Seven: It’s time to to paint (pull off the millions of hot glue strings first)!  Grab some acrylic paint in whatever color/s you want and paint away. Paint one side, lay it down and let it dry, then paint the other side, lay it down and let it dry. Or, you can do what I did and be anxious to get it done and paint the entire thing at once. The catch is you’ll have to let it air dry in your hands instead (If I can do it, anyone can).

Other options:

*Cover the antlers in Mod Podge  and sprinkle glitter all over and let it dry and top with more Mod Podge to finish. Or….

*Forget about the hot glue all together and wrap the pipe cleaner in brown or tan yarn or even tulle (like in the very first picture) from top to bottom, adding glue along the way until finished.

Let’s see how mine turns out….

IMG_20180120_145654

They aren’t dry yet but as the kids say these days, “Can you even?!?!?” I went with a purple and black ombre effect. In the future, as your antlers go through the circle of life, they will probably get paint scratched off of them here and there….just fix it with more paint :-). Now, I’m going to let mine dry….

giphy.gif

Step Eight: Now that your antlers are nice and dry, it’s time to cover that boring headband with whatever you want. I’ll be using brown glitter tulle. Put a dab of hot glue (or any glue) on the bottom of the headband and start wrapping, placing a dot of glue every few inches along the way. When you arrive at the antlers, take extra care and wrap around the base of the antlers so you know they aren’t going anywhere! Here’s what the start of the wrapping looks like (sorry, it’s blurry)…

IMG_20180120_154411

Completed…

Step Nine: This is where I would begin cutting my ears out of felt but I’ve decided I don’t want them this time. I’ll still give you a quick run down of how it’s done. Choose an outer ear color and an inner ear color of felt (I usually use brown and tan or brown and pink). The outer ear color will be cut into a larger size than the inner ear so that both colors properly show when you glue them together (like in the first picture). Place two felt scares on top of each other and cut out your ear shape. Do this for each size/color. If you can’t free cut very well, draw out your own stencils on tag board first like this (then you glue the inner ear on top of the outer and attach them to the headband with hot glue)….

IMG_20180120_164919

Step Ten: Remembering that MY end result won’t have ears, let’s continue. Turn on your hot glue gun again. This is where a high temp gun would be good! On projects like these, flowers can end up falling off  (eventually) so a high temp hot glue gun definitely is good for making sure that your faux flowers stay on for a long time.

It’s time to create a nice felt shelf for your flowers to sit on when you glue them onto the headband. Get a piece of felt, cut out a rectangle that will sit on the under side of the headband, right in between the antlers like this….

Step Eleven: Get your faux flowers ready and decide how you want them to look before you start gluing them onto the headband. PLEASE be careful. If you don’t have near fingers of steel like I do from years of burning my finger tips then I suggest you figure out a creative way to not get burned because you NEED to be able to press the flowers on pretty firmly after the hot glue is applied.  Maybe put on two pairs of rubber gloves or something. Haha.

Anyway, what I like to do is decide which flower will go in the middle and then build around it from there. Make sure to glue the flowers far enough forward on the felt so that they cover it. Squeeze a good amount (but not too much) hot glue on the larger flowers in particular and always remember to press firmly and hold every single flower for 8 to 10 seconds each. You can start to build your flower pyramid upwards, gluing flowers on top of flowers until you are happy with the final look….

IMG_20180120_163918

Although these look better in person than they do in the photo (LOL), I would need to critique my own work. Even though the lumpy texture gives the antlers a unique look that I appreciate, I would definitely go lighter next time and make sure the ends are a little more pointed than rounded.

I went ahead and started some new ones and I think I’m getting there now ;-)….

IMG_20180120_203814.jpg

Step Twelve: Turn your antlers around and take a look at the back. Cut off anything you think needs to be cut off and make it as pretty as the front by adding even more flowers or leaves or both…

IMG_20180120_164004 (1)

All finished! I hope I inspired you to try something new and if you make a mistake, don’t let that stop you from enjoying yourself while creating art. Send me pictures of yours if you make them! Byeeeeee!
